Fig Jam is Yummy

Green Leaves

Well here we have a display of Green and White – mainly Leaves and a few White Blossoms.  They can look very nice on a dinning room table for a change instead of the more colourful ones that we usually like to have.

Maybe you would like to give it a go this week and find some interesting leaves on your trees or hedges, then just pop in a couple of flowers to make it look pretty.

Here is a Fig Recipe:                                      Fig Jam

4 pound – Fresh Figs; 3 pound – Granulated Sugar, Strained Juice of 2-4 Lemons; half pint – Warm Water.

Use Figs when they are quite ripe, then the skins should be thin and the pulp juicy.  Cut off stalk and calyx ends, slice the Figs thinly or cut them into small pieces.  Put the fruit and water into the preserving pan and simmer gently until soft and pulpy.  Stir in the Lemon Juice, then the Sugar.  Bring slowly to the boil and boil moderately fast until a little of the preserve will set when dropped on to a cold plate.  While the jam is boiling stir frequently, to prevent it from burning.

Pot the Jam while it is still very hot and cover.

Here is a Poem for today:

Thoughts are Thoughts

Fleeting thoughts come and go, Quickly they fade away.

Like a whisper they are gone like a breath of air.

Quickly some come, then are gone. Some never to come again.

Thoughts are words, words from the heart, thoughts from our minds.

We cannot snatch them back. Some very vivid, then gone like the wind.

Fleeting, Fleeting where has it gone? What did it mean, how will I know

if I cannot recall? It seemed so beautiful, a wonderful thought

and now it has gone and I know not where. If I could catch it back in the air what

a wonder that would be. But no, it has fleetingly brushed

through my brain like a soft brush of wings. A fleeting thought, makes us think and wonder.

Once I was young and the thoughts stayed longer.

But now I am old and they quickly seem to fade away.  I cannot recall them so easily –

So I call them Fleeting Thoughts. Let us treasure our thoughts while we may.

Many are precious, many are not and many are – Fleeting thoughts soft as a gentle breeze

and then – They are gone.
